Counselling Service

It is often a huge shock to be told by your doctor that you have a serious sight problem that is unlikely to get better or could even get worse. The impact of the diagnosis and often drastic life changes that follow can cause deep distress for the person with the visual impairment and the people around them.

If you are experiencing emotional, psychological or relationship difficulties arising from sight loss, talking to someone with specialist listening skills can help you deal with and undersand these difficult emotions and feelings, thus helping improve your quality of life.

BSVI offers one to one counselling sessions for people of all ages, including children, who are struggling to come to terms with their sight loss. We are also able to offer one to one or group sessions for family and carers who need some emotional support.

Sessions at our Centre are available to anyone with a significant sight loss; home visits are only currently available to Bournemouth residents.

BSVI does not charge for this service but clients are asked to make a donation if affordable.

The counsellors are members of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and work to the BACP Ethical Framework which gives you assurance that they abide by an accepted and approved code of conduct and accountablity.
