BSVI Celebrates 100 Glorious Years 1911 - 2011
BSVI celebrated 100 years of service to the Bournemouth community during 2011. There have been many changes during the Society's lifetime but one thing has always remained unaltered - the Society's dedication to supporting visually impaired people in Bournemouth and the surrounding area.
There were many opportunities during the year to support BSVI's various events taking place, which culminated in a week of Celebration from 13 - 20 October 2011.
The Celebration Week began with a World Sight Day Sponsored Bike and Hike in which all members of staff together with some Trustees and volunteers took part! Everyone either cycled, ran or walked along Bournemouth sea front, with distances ranging from 100 kms to 4 miles.
The event began and ended at Boscombe Pier. The weather was glorious and everyone achieved what they set out to do and afterwards, the participants were joined by a group of BSVI Members for a celebratory and well earned drink in the Neptune!
The event raised in excess of £3,000 and heartfelt thanks goes to participants and sponsors alike for their support!
The Celebration week ended with BSVI's 100th Annual General Meeting and Centenary Lunch, and we were delighted to welcome the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Mrs Anthony Pitt Rivers and BSVI's Patron, Captain Michael Fulford-Dobson to the festivities.
Donations and Support
BSVI is delighted to thank the following for their donations and support:
Mayor's Charity Appeal 2010 - 2011
BSVI was chosen by Councillor Barry Goldbart to be one of the charities to benefit from the Appeal during his Mayoral year. A variety of fundraising events and activities took place during the year and BSVI was delighted to receive £7634 from the Appeal Fund. Our thanks go to Barry Goldbart for choosing BSVI and to everyone who supported the Appeal.
The announcement came after the store asked their customers to vote for which local charity they should support. Over the next 12 months BSVI and Sainsbury's at Boscome will be working in partnership to raise funds for the Society through events and activities. The partnership has got off to an excellent start for BSVI with a generous donation from Sainsburys of £250.
The cheque was presented by Laura Kitcher, Sainsburys (centre) to Rosemary Stevens, BSVI CEO (left) and Ruth Stanley, BSVI Business Administrator (right)
Many thanks to Sainsbury's and its customers - BSVI looks forward to a successful partneship!
Sponsored Run in aid of BSVI
We were delighted to learn that Abbie Durant was to do a 10k run in memory of her grandmother Murial Durant who was for many years a regular and active member of BSVI until she sadly passed away. Abbie set up a Just Giving page to enable people to donate easily and has donated the proceeds to BSVI.
We are pleased that not only did Abbie complete the run but she raised an amazing £520 for BSVI!
A very large 'Thank You' goes to Abbie and to everyone who supported her.
